MCS MISSION:
There are many Detroit record labels, new and old but none are booking diverse Detroit lineups and recording them live at rotating Metro Detroit venues for release on limited edition vinyl- manufactured at Archer record pressing, in Detroit, Michigan.

Motorcity Special is not signing artists or retaining rights to any of the original music.

The Motorcity Special Label Launch Concert will kick off a series of events produced by MCS to continue what the founders of the label have been doing in their previous respective efforts: Promotion of the diverse local Detroit musical talent and highlight the vast array of music venues in the motorcity.

Further info:

Kevin Pachla founded Product of Detroit in 2008 and is the owner/operator of Label Network producing promotional materials for local and national clients.

MOTORCITYBLOG just recently celebrated 5 years of documenting Detroit by their 30 contributors and nearly 6000 blog posts of Detroit music and culture.

Joining forces to form Motorcity Special, the founders would like local musical acts and venues to consider this joint venture as a premium marketing tool.

Kacey Johansing

Kacey Johansing has a seamless voice that flows like a ruby-red wine. Her Indie-Folk sound is in the vein of Feist meets Jonie Mitchell. She has a 1970s confessional songwriting style that is mature and focused, with a hint of  flowerchild mentality this songstress has found a place to belong in San Francisco where her music is flourishing. Her roots are originally in a small town in Colorado and she also spent some time in Boston. Her debut album Many Seasons is due to be released on June 15th by Porto Franco Records.

Citizen Cope

Citizen Cope aka Clarence Greenwood is an individual who looks for the deeper meaning in life and his surroundings. You can see this reflected in his lyrics which are an expression of who he is and what goes on around him. With his newest album The Rain Water, he ended up self-releasing it after the record companies wanted to give it a bit of a nip and tuck and change it to their specifications. I’ve heard the album and I’ve seen the cover art, I don’t know what these people thought needed to be different on Cope’s new album but I believe it would have lost some of its essence had he went that way. The name of the album has a deeper personal meaning for Cope. “It’s pure,” he says. “It’s also the name of someone that was close to me when I was growing up, so it just makes sense.”

Coheed and Cambria: Year of the Black Rainbow

Coheed and Cambria’s brand new fifth studio album Year Of The Black Rainbow (Columbia) has entered the Billboard 200 at #5, selling 51,377 copies. Spurred by a series of sold-out pre-release dates and the burgeoning presence of first single “Here We Are Juggernaut,” the record’s first week sales mark a career high chart position for the band.

Additionally, Year Of The Black Rainbow’s elaborate deluxe edition, featuring a 352-page novel co-authored by Coheed’s Claudio Sanchez and best-selling author Peter David, accounted for over 15,000 of the record’s first week sales. Pre-orders for the deluxe edition necessitated a second print run well before the record’s April 13 release.

Venice is Sinking

Venice is Sinking has a dreamy seductive sound that reaches out towards the sky and touches the ether. They will be releasing their 3rd full-legth LP Sand & Lines: The Georgia Theatre Sessions which is set for release on June 15th. The album was recorded in Athens, Georgia at the historic Georgia Theatre. It was recorded with no overdubs over a period of four days (which is pretty damn impressive). REM and Widespread Panic are among some of the artists that have played at that same venue, plus many others. The theatre met with misfortune in June of 2009 and was destroyed by a fire. When that happened Venice is Sinking made the generous gesture of deciding that all proceeds from Sand & Lines would go to the Theatre. Currently the Georgia Theatre is being rebuilt with the hopes of opening in early 2011. Donations are being accepted at the Theatre's website: http://www.georgiatheatre.com

Venice is Sinking Live Dates:

05/14 -Tantra - Savannah, GA
05/22 -The Art Bar - Columbia, SC
06/26 - 40 Watt Club - Athens, GA (Athfest)
