Avenged Sevenfold: 'Nightmare' Album Review
Avenged Sevenfold
Nightmare
When Avenged Sevenfold lost their drummer Jimmy Sullivan (The Rev) in December of last year they lost a friend, a brother, and an integral part of their band and family. At first the shock of losing The Rev put everyone at a stand still, how could they go on after his passing away? Then they realized that Jimmy would never want them to stop on his behalf and out of love and respect for him they carried on. What transpired was the creation a heartbreaking masterpiece with raw emotion and dark shadows laced throughout and it is absolutely spellbinding.
“It’s about how we were feeling at the time and are still feeling,” Shadows says. “When it first happens it’s much more intense. I realize now that we’re going to have to live with it and it’s never going to go away. The record is a lot different than if we hadn’t opened ourselves up right when it happened. We were more vulnerable and willing to put it out on the line.”
The Rev had played an integral role in writing the album and just days before he died, he'd completed the song "Fiction" that now seemed to have foretold his own death and assured his friends in no uncertain terms that they had to carry on. “I know you’ll find your own way, when I’m not with you tonight,” Sullivan wrote.
It was “Fiction,” the song The Rev had just finished, that helped lift any doubts about carrying on.
“He wouldn’t have wanted us to stop, and if it had been any one of us, it would be the same,” says bassist Christ. “Especially since he had written the song. ‘Fiction’ is one hundred percent his. You want people to hear how brilliant Jimmy really was, his songwriting as well as drumming. A lot of people know how great a drummer he was, but few know what a big part he played in the writing.”

From the first notes of the elegiac bells on the title track "Nightmare" to the epic ending track "Save Me" this album runs deep with passion that electrifies the auditory senses and draws you into Avenged Sevenfold's Nightmare.

Sky Sailing 'An Airplane Carried Me To Bed' Album Review
Sky Sailing
Pamela Littky
Sky Sailing is Adam Young of Owl City's new yet old side project. The songs were recorded before the creation of Owl City. They're a more stripped down version of what Young can do without all the fancy electronic and sonic sounding enhancements of Owl City. The album An Airplane Carried Me To Bedflows with dreamlike lyrics and floats on the melodic sounds of acoustic guitar and piano. I almost want to say that Young has created his own genre of music and it would be called Dream Pop (sounds like a yummy flavored popsicle).
Never expecting these early recordings to see the light of day, Young is excited to share these songs with you on July 27th. The album floats on an air of effortless melodies which are enveloped by the soft effervescence of the clouds that have been infiltrated with a moonlit infusion of vocals by Young. His lyrics create word paintings of surreal images that are almost tangible through sound. The new album is 11 songs of a whimsical and pleasant listening experience and definitely one that can be listened to the whole way through.

August 1st will then see the worldwide sensation joining The Black Eyed Peas and Jason Derulo for a one-night-only triple bill at Ottawa, Ontario’s Scotiabank Place.
Furthermore, B.o.B will also be featured at a number of upcoming summer festivals, including the annual Lollapalooza extravaganza in Chicago’s Grant Park on August 6th. The multi-talented rapper will then join Erykah Badu, The Roots, Common, Janelle Monáe, and Chuck Brown for the 5th Annual Summer Spirit Festival, slated for August 7th at Columbia, Maryland’s world famous Merriweather Post Pavilion. Next, B.o.B will head north for Z103.5’s Summer Rush Toronto, slated for August 8th at Toronto’s Kingswood Music Theater. Then, on August 10th, he will headline 104.5 WSNX’s Rock The Rapids concert at the Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
B.o.B’s acclaimed debut album, “B.o.B PRESENTS: THE ADVENTURES OF BOBBY RAY,” has proven one of 2010’s most popular and significant releases. The album – which debuted atop the Billboard 200 upon its April arrival – is highlighted by a pair of platinum certified singles in the #1 sensation, “Nothin’ On You (Feat. Bruno Mars)” and the top 3 smash, “Airplanes (Feat. Hayley Williams of Paramore).” The latter track is currently #3 with-a-bullet on Billboard’s “Hot 100” while also coming in at #2 on both the “Pop Songs” and “Rap Songs” charts, and also holds the #1 spot in the UK. As of this writing, the combined singles sales from both tracks is currently approaching 5 million with no sign of slowing down.
What’s more, B.o.B has recently been nominated for an outstanding six Teen Choice Awards, making him one of the most-nominated artists of the night. Some of the nominations include “Choice Music: Breakout Artist Male,” “Choice Music: Album Rap,” “Choice Music: Single” for “Nothin’ On You,” and will be announced on August 9 on FOX (check local listings.) No stranger to accolades, B.o.B recently received three prestigious nominations at the 2010 BET Awards, including “Best Male Hip-Hop Artist” and “Video of the Year.” The night also saw B.o.B taking the stage for a show-stopping performance of “Airplanes” alongside rap veteran Eminem and Keyshia Cole, which many raved as the best performance of the night.
“B.o.B PRESENTS: THE ADVENTURES OF BOBBY RAY” sees the resourceful rapper producing the majority of the album by himself, while also playing multiple musical instruments, including piano, trumpet and French horn. In addition, B.o.B is joined by a star-studded line-up of surprising special guests, including Hayley Williams of Paramore, T.I., Eminem, Janelle Monáe, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, Playboy Tre, and Lupe Fiasco. Endlessly inventive tracks such as “5th Dimension” and “Magic” offer a funky and fascinating journey into a gifted new talent’s far-reaching imagination.
“I just want to show people that there are endless possibilities of what you can do,” B.o.B says. “You don’t just have to be a rapper, you don’t just have to be a trapper; you can be anything you want to be and whatever you do, just love it and it will show.”

Korn: Performance Inside a Crop Circle
KORN ARE PROUD TO PRESENT KORN LIVE: THE ENCOUNTER
A Concert for KORN III - REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE Landmark Performance Inside a Broadcast and Online Premiere on Sunday, July 11th "The setting and the mood took us into a totally new direction musically. We took the opportunity to stretch out and experiment with the performance. I don't think we'll ever be the same," said frontman Jonathan Davis. "I felt like we were on some new frontier musically for Korn", said guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer. "This is definitely going to add a new dimension to our live shows." Over the last month, web watchers were exposed to mysterious, unexplainable footage shot from a wheat field near Korn 's native "We spent a lot of time fooling around in the wheat fields and corn fields surrounding Bako when we were kids, and it gets pretty spooky out there at night. That's where we got the inspiration for the whole thing, so we decided to have some fun with the viral videos," Beginning this weekend, July 10, Korn will head back on the road as one of the co-headliners for the third annual Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The band performed last week on Jimmy Kimmel Live's outdoor stage, playing two new songs from Korn III as well as four fan favorites. Be sure and tune into the "Krop" circle broadcast - you will not be disappointed. Here are some viral clips for your viewing pleasure: |
