Sometimes you don't discover music because it discovers you. The style of Swedish songstress Marie Glad is a poetic dream of luminescent lyrics swirled in artistic music that takes flight. She has a magical sense of wonder in her sunshiny sweetness. Her inner songbird sings with shimmery abandon and her lyrics paint a picture in bright splashes of color. She is a pure musical treat for the senses. Her newest album is entitled Rescue Me and can be found on iTunes and Amazon.

Songs of Water
North Carolina is a beautiful and majestic place and it almost makes you wonder if those qualities can fuse into the spirit of individuals to inspire music that is unique and mystifying. Hmm... Aren't the Avett Brothers from North Carolina? (Yes) So apparently awesome bands have been appearing out of North Carolina. Songs of Water is a group that is not easy to put into one category. They drift in a sea of world music that ebbs and flows into folk and rock currents. They bring an eloquent and musically thirst-quenching sound that is both modern and ancient all in one breath. The six piece ensemble (sometimes expanding to an 8 piece or more) explores their sound orbit with the Appalachian folk instrument, the hammered dulcimer. The hammered dulcimer is a stringed musical instrument with the strings stretched over a trapezoidal sounding board. They use this as the head of many of the group's pieces, the dulcimer interweaves with various acoustic instruments and a foundation of heavy percussion.
Songs of Water's newest album was released on March 26, 2010 and is called The Sea Has Spoken. Their music is quite enchanting.

Stars Go Dim
Stars Go Dim is a pop rock outfit that hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The creative forces were set in motion when Chris Cleveland, Joey Avalos, Michael Wittig, and Lester Estelle II came together to fashion music that captures moments in life and love through the expression of music. In 2009, the band won the Channel One News Hear It Now Artist of the Year Award. Channel One News is a 12 minute news program for teens broadcast via satellite to middle schools and high schools across the United States. They released their first self-titled EP in October 2008. To follow up their EP, the band released their first full-length album Love Gone Mad on August 4, 2009. The band was awarded the 2009 "Absolute Best of Tulsa" award by Urban Tulsa Weekly for the Best Pop Rock Group on August 8, 2009. MTV's Real World DC used "Love Gone Mad" on their February 17, 2010 episode. This is definitely a band to watch!
They have a sound that is very appealing and addictive falling somewhere between a Gavin Degraw and Jason Mraz vocal style if I had to draw a comparison. Honestly they have a sound all their own. It is heartfelt and honest and rides waves of focused and inspiring melodies.

Sometimes Stereos Eat Things!
So the other day my stereo decided that it was time to go and join the great sound waves in the sky. Which means that it died and in the process decided to eat two of my favorite CDs (Band of Heathens One Foot in the Ether and Avenged Sevenfold's City of Evil. What a bastard! So... I armed myself with a screwdriver and took that stubborn hunk of metal apart. I was able to rescue my CDs and then set about screwing the stereo back together so that I could take it to a place to be recycled. I ended up with five extra screws of which I have no idea where they go. For some reason I decided to turn it on for one last go. Guess what?! Damn thing has worked great ever since!!!!

B.o.B "Airplanes" featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore
So it's been a hot minute since I've liked any new hip-hop or rap artists, but B.o.B has won me over! B.o.B's album The Adventures of Bobby Ray kicks ass! Shwayze is another newer hip-hop act that I really dig. Besides these guys nothing else has struck a chord.

Artist of the Day: Biffy Clyro
Seriously these names keep throwing me off, I think it's kind of like judging a book by it's cover. On hearing the name Biffy Clyro I assumed that this was a singular artist, possibly a girl. (Insert loud buzzer noise here indicating me being wrong.) Biffy Clyro assembled in the late '90s, in the town of Kilmarnock, near Glasgow, in Scotland, Biffy Clyro comprises a three-piece lineup, fronted by vocalist and guitarist Simon Neil along with James Johnston (bass) and drummer Ben Johnston.
Check out their song "Mountains," below.

Wayne "The Train" Hancock
Wayne "The Train" Hancock has been the king of juke-joint swing since his stunning debut in 1995 with Thunderstorms and Neon Signs. His music translates into a hazy dream of honky-tonk, roadhouse blues, western swing, big band, old-time country and Texas rockabilly. With seven full length albums under his belt the newest album is a gem just like the rest; Viper of Melody is infectious and unpretentious it'll get your toes tapping and fingers snapping. The album was produced by long time collaborator Lloyd Maines who has worked with artists such as Joe Ely, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, and the Dixie Chicks.

Local artist: Graceann Warn to be featured at Next Step Studios “Spring Happenings” in Ferndale, MI on May 22, 2010
“Spring Happenings” features the preview of a new body of work by Graceann Warn. As a part of the celebration of this exciting new commission, her latest collection of paintings that focus on brilliant pops of color will debut at Next Step Studios. Graceann’s recently commissioned painting for the Yale-New Haven Hospitals is now on display in their main lobby. Next Step Studios is owned and run by the talented artist Kaiser Suidan. Kaiser’s unique style is inspired by the geometrical forms found in nature. This has caught the eye of exclusive clientele such as Compuware and he has even had an installation featured on the set of the television show Will & Grace. The “Spring Happenings” event will also feature the official opening of Next Step’s new sculpture garden featuring ceramic artists Mark Chatterly and Susan Beiner’s work. There will be live music and drinks to compliment this fantastic art event.
A little background on Graceann Warn: she grew up in a small town in New Jersey, where the thought of making a living as an artist had never crossed her mind. She had intended on making a career as a Landscape Architect receiving her degree in that field from U of M in Ann Arbor. After a chance encounter and a rather intense emotional response to viewing a Mark Rothko art exhibit she realized her true calling and decided to become an artist. She merged beautifully with the Ann Arbor artist’s culture and has been one of the lucky ones to make a living solely off of her art. Currently her artistic focus has been on using bright colors in her work such as vibrant reds and explosive oranges.
This year Graceann has been extremely busy with shows scheduled all over the country including Lenox, Massachusetts, Wellfleet Massachusetts, Lincoln, Nebraska, and the critically acclaimed SOFA Chicago art gala at Navy Pier. She will be ending the year with a big solo exhibit starting on November 13th at the River Gallery in Chelsea, MI. The solo exhibit will remain up until January of 2011.
Don’t miss out on “Spring Happenings,” at Next Step Studios in Ferndale located at 530 Hilton between 8 and 9 mile. The event is Free and begins at 6pm and goes till midnight. For more information on Next Step Studios call 248.414.7050 or visit http://www.nextstepstudio.com. Graceann will be available for interviews or for more information please contact Natalie@dreamtownmedia.com or Melissa@dreamtownmedia.com .

Karma To Burn
The dawning of Karma To Burn began with two careless and angry young men, William Mecum and Richard Mullins. They had a vision of a band that would focus on instrumentation and screw the tradition of having a singer, why the hell did they need one of those!? So of course Roadrunner Records offered to release their debut album... on the condition that they get a singer.

Disturbed have sold 11 million albums and six million digital tracks worldwide, and have scored eight #1 singles at Active Rock radio over the course of their career. Disturbed are currently in the studio recording their new CD entitled Asylum, which will be released by Reprise Records in late summer. The group's last studio album, the platinum self-produced Indestructible, debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart in June 2008 and remained in the Top 10 for five weeks.Indestructible is the band's third consecutive #1 album, following their platinum-sellers Believe (2002) and Ten Thousand Fists (2005), making Disturbed one of only six rock bands in history to score three consecutive #1 debuts with studio albums. "We are truly looking forward to being part of a lineup this strong," says Disturbed's David Draiman. "It's always good to tour with friends." In 2008, the song "Inside the Fire" was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Hard Rock Performance category for the 2009 award show and is the longest running #1 single in history at Active Rock Radio.
Southern California's Avenged Sevenfold recently finished tracking their highly anticipated fifth studio album, slated for release later this year. The group, once an integral part of the independent underground rock scene, achieved worldwide success with their platinum 2005 breakthrough City Of Evil (Warner Bros. Records). The album featured the wildly popular single "Bat Country." The band quickly became known for their spectacular live shows and continues to sell out arenas worldwide. They are the only band to have headlined the Vans Warped Tour and Ozzfest while simultaneously hitting #1 on MTV's "TRL." In 2006, they won the award for fan-voted Best New Artist category for "Bat Country" at the MTV Video Music Awards. In 2007, their self-titled Avenged Sevenfold album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Alternative, Hard and Rock Charts and #4 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. It spawned the singles "Almost Easy," "Afterlife" and "Scream," and has sold over a million units worldwide. In 2008, the band captured their magnificent stage show on Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough, a live CD/DVD that has since been certified platinum. This tour marks Avenged Sevenfold's first tour since the passing of beloved friend and drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, and frontman M. Shadows shares, "After recently finishing up our new record we were not sure if we were going to continue touring. We got a call from our friends at UPROAR and decided this would be the best way to introduce our fans to the new album. We are excited to share the new music with you and our friends on tour."
Stone Sour's passionately pulsing second album, Come What(ever) May found the band firing on all cylinders and capturing the attention and the hearts of the rock 'n roll masses. The album was a massive success, already gold and approaching platinum status while the band is currently holed up in Nashville, Tennessee working on their much anticipated, as-yet-untitled third effort, due out on Roadrunner Records in summer 2010. Grammy-winning Come What(ever) May producerNick Raskulinecz is once again onboard as producer. "Me and the boys are really looking forward to the UPROAR Festival this fall," comments the group's Corey Taylor. "Not only is it another chance to tour the great States, but it's also a chance for us to play the new material that we've been working on. It's going to be no holds barred every night, and we hope everyone is ready for it."
"With UPROAR, our goal is to bring fans a late summer celebration featuring awesome rock bands, lifestyle attractions and activities. Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold and Stone Sour along with the rest of the bill deliver one of the best rock touring packages in recent times," says tour producer John Reese. "The album sales success of Disturbed has been unprecedented and they have the opportunity to be one of the only rock bands in history to have an album debut at #1 on theBillboard Top 200 four consecutive times. "In my opinion, Avenged Sevenfold with this new album are set to take their career to a massive place and Stone Sour's career is on a path to hugeness."
"The creative duo behind UPROAR, John Reese and CAA, are incredibly talented at pulling together a stellar lineup of great bands, combined with great activities, in a fun-filled summer environment, at a great price. Our current partnership on Mayhem has been a huge success drawing more than 600,000 fans to our amphitheaters in 2008 and 2009, and given the great roster of bands on UPROAR, we anticipate another big hit with fans this summer," said Jason Garner, CEO of Concerts for Live Nation.
"At Rockstar Energy Drink we are committed to the music fan and with UPROAR we are ready to unleash one of the best rock packages in recent memory on North America," says Rockstar Energy Drink Marketing Director Mike Kelso. "A plethora of great music and fan friendly surprises will be unveiled at the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival."
"Jagermeister is once again thrilled to be working with John Reese and his team on UPROAR," comments Rick Zeiler, Director of Strategic Marketing for Jagermeister. "Our company takes great pride in working with the best in the business and UPROAR has all of the elements to be one of the best tours this year. We're also very excited to have Hellyeah headline the Jagermeister Mobile Stage."
The Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival will feature a full afternoon and night of activities, including a concourse midway filled with vendors and activities and a daily wrestling tournament featuring the Detroit-based Blue Collar Wrestling Alliance. The Blue Collar Wrestling Alliance UPROAR lineup will feature eight of the finest, fastest rising wrestlers in the world who will put their skills to the ultimate test during the BCWA UPROAR Invitational. The 36-event tournament will encompass 245 matches over seven weeks throughout North America. The athlete that perseveres over injuries and adversity will be named King of the Tournament.
UPROAR TV launches today and a new episode will air every Tuesday from May 11 through the end of the tour. UPROAR TV can be found at www.RockstarUproar.com. Fans can expect exclusive behind the scenes footage and surprises from bands on the tour. In addition, Guitar Player magazine will produce the official festival program which will be distributed free at each show.
